Amazon has revolutionized how people view TV with its Fire Stick TV device. With either of this cheap device, you can turn your old HDMI enabled the regular TV to a smart TV and stream shows and live sports from the internet. Both devices run on Fire OS which is a customized version of Android. They come with a couple of pre-installed apps by Amazon. Apart from the native apps installed you can install more apps on your device. Primarily you are able to stream content but the downside to using the native Amazon service is that most of the content available is underpaid subscription which some people might find too expensive. To get the most out of your Amazon Fire TV stick or Fire TV on a budget, I recommend using Kodi on your Fire Stick/ Fire TV. Kodi is a media center originally made for Xbox but has since won the hearts of many people, now it is available for most devices including PC Windows, Android, iPhone/iPad, Mac, and Of Course Firestick. Also, Kodi is listed on our list of Best Apps for Firestick. ExpressVPN offers 49% off and 3 months extra on annual plans. With a 30-day money-back guarantee, You can always get your money back if you don’t like their services. How to Install Kodi 18.9 Leia on Firestick TV Step 1 First, you’ll need a working internet connection on your device otherwise you won’t be able to download the APK file for the installation. You will also need to make sure your Firestick TV has at least 100 MBs free space. Step 2 Go to your Device Menu, select “Settings”, then “My Fire TV” Now Choose“Developer Options”. Set the Setting“ Apps from Unknown Sources” to ON. This should prompt you with a warning but it’s safe to select “Turn on”. With this setting turned on, you’ll be able to install third-party APKs on your Amazon Fire Stick. Having this option enabled doesn’t nullify your Fire stick so relax and proceed for further process. Getting the Kodi APK There are several ways you can get the Kodi APK file. Here we are going to cover two ways: Using “Downloader” and using “ES File Explorer”. For “Downloader” and “ES File Explorer”, both apps are free and available on the Amazon App store. I’d recommend using Downloader if you don’t have the exact URL since it gives you a browser interface to download the Kodi APK otherwise if you are more technical, ES explorer will be fine. Method 1: Using Downloader App Step 3 Press the Home Button on your remote to return to your Home screen. Click on the magnifying glass icon at the Top Left and Search “Downloader”. Select “Downloader” from the list and Download. The app has a distinguishable orange icon so be sure to get the right one. This app enables you to download stuff from the Internet easily if you have the URL and can be used to install apps that aren’t found in the Amazon store. Once the app is Downloaded click “Open” to launch the app. The app will come up with some update notes. Select OK and then Allow to continue. Step 4 Once you’re in the app, navigate to “Settings” and check the “Enable JavaScript” checkbox. This will prompt you with a warning but it’s safe to proceed. So click on “Yes” to continue. Also, make sure that the option of “APK Auto-Install” is checked otherwise after the download you’ll have to navigate to the APK to install from there. I recommend having this option turned on. Go to the Menu on the left and select “Home” to go back to the home page. Step 5 Once on the Home page, enter the following URL: “firestickapps.com/kodiapk” for Kodi version 18.9 Leia “bit.ly/kodi176” for Kodi version 17.6 Krypton Click on “Go” The APK should take a few minutes to download depending on your internet speed. Step 6 Once the file finishes downloading, Downloader automatically pops up the installation wizard so click on Install and allow permissions to finalize installation of Kodi. Method 2: Using ES File Explorer Step 3 Install ES File Explorer from the Amazon Store if you don’t have it installed yet. After the installation is done, Launch the app and follow the following steps to download and Install Kodi. Step 4 Open the menu, its located to the left. Go to “Tools” then select “Download Manager”. In the opened screen select “New” at the bottom of the screen to begin a new download Task. Step 5 A pop comes up asking you for “name” and “path”. Under the name, input the desired name you want to give to the downloaded file. For the path, input “firestickapps.com/kodiapk” to download Kodi version 18.9 Leia or “bit.ly/kodi176” to download Kodi version 17.6. Click “Download Now” and wait a few minutes depending on your internet speed for the APK to download. Step 6 Once after the download is finished, click “Open now” to begin the installation. Click on “Install” and allow permissions in the new display to start the installation. The installation takes a few minutes. Launching Kodi after Installation. Once the installation is complete, you will be prompted to keep the downloaded APK file or delete it. You can choose to keep it in case you need to reinstall Kodi again or delete it to free up space in your device. Before launching Kodi on your Fire Stick/ Fire TV, it’s recommended that you protect your identity when using Apps that offer free streaming services. This is because your ISP keeps a log of content that you access on your Fire Stick TV from the internet and streaming copyrighted content could cause legal issues. To remain anonymous when using the Fire Stick or Fire TV, I recommend using an ExpressVPN. Follow the steps below to configure ExpressVPN service on your Fire Stick TV. How to Configure a VPN on your FireStick TV As mentioned earlier, VPNs protect your identity from Hackers and most important they mask the content you access from the internet from your Internet Service Provider. This is so as to avoid legal issues when streaming free movies and TV shows using your Firestick TV. There’s a variety of sites which offer free VPNs but I’d recommend using ExpressVPN. The plus side to using ExpressVPN is they have a ready app available on the Amazon Store and it’s easy to set up. To install ExpressVPN and protect your identity on your Fire Stick/ Fire TV follow the following steps: Press the Home button on your remote. Click on the magnifying glass icon on the top left part of your home screen and type “ExpressVPN”. This searches the ExpressVPN app on the Amazon Store. Locate the App in the store and click “Download”. Once the app finishes downloading launch it. Sign In the app using your ExpressVPN Username and Password. If you don’t have these you can get them from the ExpressVPN Site on your Computer or Mobile Phone. Select a Server location. I advise users to choose a server different from the region you’re located. After selecting the server click on Connect and that’s it, your VPN service is set up. Your ISP won’t get logs of the web servers you access on the internet. Now you can proceed to the next step to launch Kodi. Launching Kodi Once the Installation is done, Kodi won’t appear in your home screen so to launch it, Go to “Settings -> Applications -> Manage Installed Applications -> Kodi -> Launch”. Moreover, you can press and hold the Home button on your remote for 5 seconds then click on Apps on the pop-up screen then select Kodi to access launch it. Once you have Kodi installed on your device, you’ll need to set it up by downloading Best Kodi Addons and Best Kodi Builds to add more functionality to the Media center. The add-ons are available on the Kodi store and we also have third-party add-ons like the popular Exodus Kodi and Exodus Redux – both enable you to stream free movies, TV shows, Documentaries, etc. from the internet using Web Scrappers. There are many more Addons and Builds available so be sure to try them out. ShareTweetPin66 Shares Firestick TV Kodi Kodi Leia
